Raid Faction Wars: Build a Roster One Faction at a Time

FACTION WARS
By Sarah Jenkins • 7 min read

Why Faction Wars needs a different plan

Faction Wars restricts each crypt to champions from one faction. A champion that carries campaign or arena may not be enough when used alone; stages ask for a functional squad from available members. The mode rewards roster depth, but that does not mean every faction champion needs maximum investment immediately.

Crypts provide materials used to forge Perception and Resilience artifacts, and progress contributes to earning Lydia the Deathsiren through the Faction Wars completion system. These rewards make steady account-wide progress worthwhile. Approach one faction at a time, choosing a crypt where your champions can reasonably advance.

Build a balanced squad

A successful team generally needs more than raw damage. Cover a durable front line, reliable damage, healing or revival, and control or debuffs. One champion may fill several roles. A reviver can prevent a strong run from ending when a key ally falls; control can reduce pressure from dangerous waves; debuffs can make enemies easier to defeat.

Control/debufferReduces danger or enables killsAccuracy if effects can be resisted

Do not force all roles if your faction lacks them. A second damage dealer may beat a weak healer; a cleanser may matter when a stage applies dangerous debuffs. Read enemy skills and adapt after a failed run.

Upgrade selectively

Early Faction Wars teams can often use existing gear and champions built for other content. Equip them well enough to survive and act, but avoid stripping essential Clan Boss or dungeon champions without a clear benefit. Support champions often gain more from Speed and durability than damage sets. Debuffers need enough Accuracy for the stage; damage dealers should focus on consistent output.

Level and ascend champions who unlock a capability. A rare with a useful revive or team buff can be more valuable than an unbuilt legendary who adds only more damage. Masteries are a long-term investment; prioritize champions useful across several modes so scrolls benefit more than one crypt.

Read the stage, not just power

A team power estimate does not guarantee success. Watch who dies first, which enemy skill causes trouble, and whether debuffs land. If a wave overwhelms the team, more control or durability may help. If the boss survives while your squad is healthy, improve damage or bring relevant utility. Check whether a champion’s AI uses the needed skill at the right time, and consider manual play for a difficult boss.

Glyphs earned through Faction Wars improve artifact substats. Apply them to pieces already worth keeping, rather than investing heavily in temporary gear. The bonuses are incremental and cannot replace a correct main stat or good team roles.

Make gradual progress sustainable

Select one faction, push until a stage becomes inefficient, and pause while developing the next useful champion. Keep a note of the missing role in each promising faction—perhaps a reviver, reliable wave control, or durable boss specialist. When a suitable champion arrives, you will know whether they solve a real problem.

Faction Wars should complement account growth. A champion trained for Clan Boss may also anchor their faction team; a gear upgrade can help dungeon and crypt runs. By choosing investments with multiple uses, you build toward Lydia and improve several areas without turning every faction into an urgent project.

Keep expectations tied to roster depth

Some crypts will progress quickly because you already own several useful champions; others may stall until a key role becomes available. Do not invest heavily in a poor champion solely to force a stage if the same resources would improve your core teams. Revisit the crypt after new pulls, gear upgrades, or mastery work. The restrictions are a reason to plan patiently, not to make every faction an immediate priority.

Use each attempt to test a focused adjustment. If the waves kill your support, improve speed or durability; if the boss outlasts the team, add sustained damage or a relevant debuff. Keep successful builds available when the champions also serve other content, and treat crypt rewards as a steady side path that compounds with the rest of your account.
