Raid: Shadow Legends Artifact Gearing: Stats Before Sets
STATS FIRST Start with the championās job
An artifact build works when it lets a champion do its job consistently. Decide whether the champion is a damage dealer, debuffer, healer, reviver, or control specialist. A champion who must land Decrease Defense needs Accuracy; a fast opener needs Speed; a fragile nuker needs enough offense; a support who dies before acting needs survivability.
Set bonuses can help, but early accounts often gain more from the right main stats than from forcing a set. A two-piece Speed bonus matters only if the resulting pieces have sensible stats. Compare total stats after equipping, not just the set icon.
Read the flexible slots
Weapons, helmets, and shields have fixed primary stats, while gloves, chestplates, and boots allow more variety. Percentage stats tend to scale well. Speed boots are a common starting point because acting sooner helps nearly every role. Damage dealers often use Critical Rate gloves until their Critical Rate is dependable, then may shift toward Critical Damage. Debuffers can use an Accuracy chestplate if other pieces do not provide enough; supports may need HP% or Defense%.
| Role | Useful priorities | Common trap |
|---|---|---|
| Debuffer | Speed, enough Accuracy, durability | Building damage while debuffs miss |
| Healer or reviver | Speed, HP/Defense, relevant resistance | Forcing a set that leaves them fragile |
| Nuker | Critical Rate, scaling stat, Critical Damage | Critical Damage without reliable Critical Rate |
| Clan Boss damage dealer | Survival, speed order, sustained damage | Building only for a short arena fight |
These are priorities, not universal targets. Stage, resistance, skill scaling, and team composition change what is needed. Use battle results to diagnose the gap.
Treat Speed and Accuracy as functional stats
Accuracy helps debuffs land against resistance; it does not increase damage. If a key debuff repeatedly fails, check the encounter and championās Accuracy before assuming the skill is unreliable. Some effects cannot be resisted, while others can, so read skill text.
Speed determines turn order and frequency. A turn-meter boost or speed buff can make a plan work, but mismatched speeds may let the damage dealer act before the setup debuff. In longer fights, a coherent order can be more valuable than isolated high numbers. Arena, Clan Boss, and dungeon builds may need different arrangements.
Upgrade with a silver budget
Artifact upgrades cost silver and become more expensive at higher levels. First check main stat, set, rarity, and substats; invest in promising pieces that solve a known weakness. A useful early item with Speed and Accuracy can remain valuable without a perfect set.
- Equip the best available main stats on core champions.
- Check whether Speed and Accuracy meet the roleās needs.
- Improve survival or damage based on battle failures.
- Upgrade promising pieces and reassess before spending more.
- Sell weak pieces when they no longer justify inventory or silver.
Do not evaluate gear solely by rarity or star rank. A higher-rank item with the wrong main stat can be worse than a lower-rank piece that completes a build. Substat upgrades also reveal value; stop investing if the rolls do not support the intended role.
Build for the content you play
A champion may need multiple builds over an accountās life. An arena nuker values burst; a Clan Boss champion may need carefully coordinated turn order and durability; a dungeon specialist might need Accuracy for control. Save strong interchangeable pieces for champions who serve several teams, and avoid stripping an essential team without a replacement plan.
When comparing pieces, ask which battle problem each addresses. If a debuff misses, more Attack will not fix it. If it lands but the champion dies, trade offense for defense or HP. This diagnostic habit turns gearing from guesswork into steady improvement.
A repeatable gear audit
Every few sessions, review the champions you actually use. Check whether boots still provide the Speed your turn order assumes, whether a debuffer has enough Accuracy for the stage, and whether the support survives long enough to act. Avoid spending silver merely because a piece can be upgraded. A useful item is one that improves a measurable function, not just the power number displayed on the champion page.
Test a change in the same content where the problem occurred. Keep notes on the prior result, and if the replacement makes the champion slower or less durable, restore the previous piece. Gear is a shared account resource: the best distribution is the one that helps the whole team clear reliably, not one character reach an impressive isolated stat.
